Would God move heaven and earth for me?
Sometimes I struggle in my prayer life with just what is appropriate to ask of God in prayer. God is the God of the universe and Jesus seems to encourage "big" prayers when He tells us: "For with God nothing shall be impossible" (Luke 1:37). I also know that "all things together work for good to them that love God..." (Romans 8:28) -- even those things that are definitely NOT, in my opinion, good in and of themselves. But how do know that the very thing I am praying against isn't exactly what God knows is needed to fulfill His perfect plan? Perhaps what I need to do is to spend more time listening to God in prayer and less time telling God what I'd like Him to do.
There is another answer, however, that comes to mind as we approach the Advent season. Would God move heaven and earth for me? Why, yes! He already has! He moved Heaven, in the form of His Son Jesus, to earth for me and for all sinners. God has already shown us just how much He loves us as John 3:16 reminds us. "For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Which reminds me of another vital aspect of prayer -- thanksgiving! Join me in thanking God for His grace and mercy so freely offered to us in Christ! And let's ask God for wisdom and faith to pray some "big" prayers!!
